Fifteen year-old violinist Nerea Arriola was born in Mendaro, Northern Spain into a family of professional violinists.
She commenced violin studies with her parents at 5 years of age and already by the age of 6, she took part in the Crisol de Cuerda Traditional Violin Folk Festival alongside her father, and recieved lessons from internationally renowned folk-fiddler, Alisdair Fraser.
At 10 years of age, Nerea became a member of the Basque Youth Symphony Orchestra which was created by the Basque Education Department for young musicians between the ages of 10 a 14 years of age.
After having been a member for 4 consecutive years, Nerea was concertmaster of the orchestra in 2015 and 2016.
Since the age of 11, Nerea has been studying with Raffaela Acella, violin professor at the Conservatorio y Escuela de Musica de Irún, Northern Spain.
Nerea has participated actively in masterclasses at the Pyrenees Classic International Masterclasses held in Canfranc, Spain since 2012 and has recieved tutoring from Anna Baget, Nicolas Chumachenco and Eva Graubin.
Presently she is also being mentored by professor Vera Paskaleva of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid.
More recently Nerea has successfully participated in various national and international violin competitions :
2017: Finalist and Diploma recipient : 10th International “ Arthur Grumiaux “ Violin Competition, Brussels, Belgium.
2017 : Honorable Mention : Concurso Jóvenes de Euskadi ( age limit 19 years ) San Sebastian, Spain.
2016 : 1st prize : Concurso Jovenes de Euskadi ( age limit 15 years ) San Sebastian, Spain.
2016 : 2nd prize : Forum Musikae violin competition Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid, Spain.
2016. 2nd prize ex -aequo : Ciudad de Vigo, Galicia, string competition ( violin – viola category )
2016 : 3rd prize : Atlantic Coast International Violin Competition, Esposende, Portugal ( 1st and 2nd prize not awarded )
2015 : 2nd prize: Concurso Jóvenes de Euskadi ( age limit 15 years ) Vitoria, Spain.
Nerea was amongst some of the youngest musicians selected from all over Spain to participate in the Proyecto Desarrollo de Talentos 2016-2017, promoted by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid.
This culminated in a special orchestral concert held in the Auditorio Nacional of Madrid in March 2017, where she performed together with other young musicians.
